The Typical Treatment Plan Starts With Surgery
Most stomach cancer cases are treated with surgery, chemo and radiation, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Your dad’s doctor may start with surgery and go from there or try a multi-faceted attack.
Surgical removal of the cancerous areas is most likely. Stage 1 cancer often uses a less invasive surgical technique. Your dad’s surgeon inserts a tube through the mouth and into the stomach and surgical tools use this tube to access the stomach lining.
If the tumors are larger or are progressing into the stomach muscle, surgical removal of some or all of the stomach may be necessary. This is more invasive and will require post-hospital care at home. Your dad will have surgical incisions that need specialized care to prevent infection and ensure healing is going smoothly.
