Rheumatoid Arthritis

One of the types of arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis. When someone has this condition, their cartilage begins to thin out and deteriorate. This process causes the joints to slide on one another causing friction and pain.

Does your elderly loved one experience pain when moving their joints? If so, they could have this type of arthritis or another type. Either way, it would be a good idea for you or a companion care at home provider to get your elderly loved one to a doctor’s appointment to have it checked out.

Psoriatic Arthritis

Another type of arthritis that your elderly loved one might have or get is psoriatic arthritis. Inflammation in and around the joints causes this condition. Usually, the inflammation is from psoriasis which is a red, scaly, and flaky skin condition.

Does your elderly loved one have swelling in their hands, knees, ankles, feet, toes, and/or fingers? If so, they might have psoriatic arthritis. If they are experiencing this issue, make sure you or a companion care at home provider take them to see their doctor. They may need medications or other treatments to help manage it.

Other Types of Arthritis

The types of arthritis mentioned above are not the only kinds. Your elderly loved one may also develop ankylosing spondylitis which primarily causes spinal pain. They could also develop gout happens due to uric acid buildup in and around the joints. Lupus is also a type of arthritis that could occur.

There are numerous symptoms that can occur with all these types of arthritis. Some of the symptoms your elderly loved one might have include pain, inflammation, energy loss, and overall fatigue. If your elderly loved one does have any of these symptoms, schedule them an appointment to see their doctor about it.

Getting Them to the Doctor with a Companion Care at Home Provider
