MANSFIELD, OH – Inside each of us is a reflection of our youth. Home Health Care allows the opportunity to hear the stories of a different generation as others remember and share their stories while being cared for. Lenora Gossett, 85, is unique in that she worked for the same company that now takes care of her, Central Star Home Health.

In an effort to increase name recognition, Central Star was looking for a shining star to feature on their billboard campaign, and who could be better than Lenora who worked for the company for 20 years.

“Why would they want an old woman up on a billboard looking (laughs),” Lenora chuckles. “And I thought, you know, that’s too funny.”

Lenora started her nurse aide career in the nursing home setting but didn’t like the environment. Home health care is where her passion for caring for people began, “You got really nice people and that’s what I liked. I had ten clients, and you took care of them. You wanted to, you wanted to get up in the morning and go see them.”

Lenora now has Central Star Home Health aides and nurses visiting her twice a day.

“We came up with the idea of a patient that could reflect what we really do. What’s really important, which is taking care of people, and it kind of took off from there,” explains Central Star administrator Kathy Summers.

So there Lenora stood, larger than life on a billboard on U.S. Route 30 on the main corridor through Mansfield. The billboard features Lenora looking back on her younger self through a mirror’s reflection. The image was inspired by artist, Tom Hussey, who hoped to convey the inner youth we all seen when looking in the mirror.

Summers hopes Lenora’s story and passion for life inspire people to get into the home health care field.
