There are fun, quirky holidays just about every day of the year, and sometimes taking a few hours or even an entire day to celebrate one of these lesser-known holidays is a great way for your aging parent to have something fun to look forward to. Every year, January 31 is celebrated as a day to inspire your heart with art! If your parent has a heart for art, she might really enjoy doing something special on this day to celebrate. Art comes in many forms and from many areas, so let’s look at some ways your parent can celebrate this lesser-known holiday.
Be an artist for a day.
Elder Care Ontario OH – Inspire Your Heart With Art Day in Five Fun WaysArt comes in many forms – painting, singing, sculpting, and writing just to name a few. Your parent may want to spend the afternoon participating in art that she has always done, or she may want to try something completely new. If you reside in a part of the country with warmer temperatures, she could take her art outside. Have your elder care provider pack up her supplies (maybe an art easel, a canvas, and some paint and brushes) and bring your parent to a local park to paint. Or, if the weather outside is still not hospitable, your parent might enjoy setting up her own little art studio in the home. Taking a quick trip to the local arts and crafts store to get some fun supplies will be a fun way to begin.
Support a local artist.
If your parent loves to decorate her home or yard with art, January 31 might be a great day for her to purchase some new art. Some stores are open and can be safely visited – your elder care provider can bring your parent out for a little shopping trip. She could also shop online and support local artists by making purchases that way as well.
Enjoy some famous art.
Many of the most famous art museums have online virtual tours right now. Have your elder care provider assist your parent in finding those online resources that will guide her through the halls of the Louvre Museum in Paris or the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She might even get inspired to plan a trip for some time in the future to visit those places in person.
Celebrate some natural art.
Nature provides beautiful art all around the world. If you’re living in an area where it’s safe to spend some time outside (you can always bundle up as much as needed), take your parent to a local park or nature preserve to see what natural art she can find. She can even capture that beautiful natural art on her camera or phone to display in her home.
Giveaway some art.
You don’t want to hide art away in a dark corner of the home or in the bottom of a box. Encourage your parent to share her creations with those she loves, even if she doesn’t see the value in them. A personally created art piece is not only beautiful, but has wonderful sentimental value for the person receiving it. Even her elder care provider might like a little home-made piece of art to cherish.
Taking some time to focus on art that moves your heart is what January 31 is all about.
