Five Ways to Help Your Brain Keep up with Caregiving Demands

Caregiver Shelby OH-As a caregiver if you’re starting to feel run down and having a hard time thinking properly, you might need to try some of these ideas.

When you’re a caregiver, you expect your brain to keep up with everything that’s going on. But if you’re starting to feel run down and having a hard time thinking properly, you might need to try some of these ideas.

Caregiver Shelby OH – Five Ways to Help Your Brain Keep up with Caregiving Demands

Quit Making Your Brain Remember Stuff

Your brain is designed to do more thinking than remembering. And when you’re forcing your brain to remember a lot of little details, they’re going to start to go missing. The easy fix for this, and one that gives your brain a huge break, is to start writing things down. If you write down all of the stuff you’ve been trying to remember, you can just go back and look at that information later rather than trying to remember it.

Make Sure You’re Sleeping Well

When you sleep, your brain gets a chance to sort through all of the things it’s been thinking about all day. Some of those things get “deleted” while some of them get moved into “long term storage.” There’s a lot of little housekeeping that your brain is able to do while you sleep because you’re not forcing it to do a bunch of other things. Not sleeping means your brain isn’t getting to do those tasks, so it doesn’t work as well.

Watch What You’re Eating

Like sleep, the food you eat helps your brain, too. Eating foods that are nutrient-dense help to keep all the systems of your body running as well as possible. It’s not easy to change up your diet, though, so do what you can gradually. Making just one better choice every meal can make a bigger difference than you might expect. As you see better results and feel better overall, you’re going to want to keep yourself fueled.

Move Some More, Too

Exercise gets recommended by doctors so often because there are physical, mental, and emotional benefits to it. For starters, when your heart and lungs work harder they get stronger. That means that they can help your blood to get where it needs to go efficiently. Working out also signals to your brain to release more of the chemicals that help to regulate your mood and beat stress.

How Are Your Stress Levels?

Speaking of stress, how stressed are you? When you’re stressed out and overwhelmed, your brain is, too. That’s no way to treat your brain. Keeping your stress levels under control benefits you in other ways, too.

When you take care of your brain, it can take better care of you. Start with one or two little changes and then gradually make more.
